Approximately 2,000 free tickets to the Monday, Oct 22 Installation & Lecture of His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on Thursday October 18 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (or until they run out) at the Coca-Cola Commons in the center of the R. Information about the event
The Installation and Inaugural Lecture of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Monday, October 22 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
This is the premiere event for the Emory campus community and promises to be one of the most vibrant and memorable experiences of his visit. The Dalai Lama will be participating in the full two-hour experience.
Musical performances and chant will fill the arena before the event begins. The event itself will start with a colorful procession filled with music, sights, and sounds from around the world and from our own community. The installation ceremony will then feature brief remarks and presentations to His Holiness from representatives from Emory faculty, staff, students, and community.
At the conclusion of the official installation ceremony, the platform party will leave the stage and His Holiness will deliver a one-hour lecture--his first formal lecture as newly installed professor. The title of the talk is "Reality as Interdependence."
Doors open at 8:00, you must plan on arriving by 8:30 to get through the security screening and to your seats. Since the general admission section includes both floor and bleacher seats, the earlier you arrive, the better seat you will have. The event will end promptly at 11:30 a.m.
________________________________
Security information: you must bring your Emory ID, and must enter from the PEAVINE side of WoodPEC at the track level. Absolutely no bags will be allowed inside. No backpacks, laptops, cameras, umbrellas, or metal objects will be permitted. Small purses (no larger than your hand) will be allowed but will require search. Those who can walk through with no metal on their person, no purse, and only their keys and perhaps cell phone in hand will be able to use express lines to speed up the process. Please dress and prepare as if you were planning to go through airport security (no jewelry, metal buckles, coins, etc.). A notepad and plastic pen are fine if you would like to take notes.
Parking: The Peavine Parking Structure will be full with those with Peavine Parking permits. If you do not have a Peavine permit, please plan on parking elsewhere and walking or using the campus shuttle system to get to the event. All guest entry is through the Peavine side entrance down by the track. No guests can access the events from the main glass doors in the center of the building.
Reminder: These tickets are ONLY for the Monday morning event, and not for the Religion Summit or the Mind and Life XV conference. A limited number of Religion Summit tickets may be released for SALE later this week---check http://dalailama.emory.edu for any announcements regarding these tickets. No additional free tickets are being distributed for those two events.
If there are any Monday Installation tickets remaining from this final distribution, a notice will be posted on http://dalailama.emory.edu indicating that tickets will be available for those with ID at a standby-line at the gym. If all remaining tickets are distributed on Thursday there will be no standby line.
Please note: while you can give your ticket away, it must be to another faculty, staff, or student as this event is only for the current Emory faculty, staff, and student body. Please take a ticket only if you are able to attend and your school/work schedule permits.
As always, all are welcome to come to Olympic Park that same afternoon (Monday the 22nd) from 3:00 to 6:00 for the Public Talk. See http://dalailama.emory.edu for more details.
